I pulled into the driveway
Turned off the ignition
Went to get groceries out of the back of the car
A noise startled me
Could the car still be running, I thought
What’s broken now
Reflected in the rear window was the source of my dismay
Low flying raven beating its wings a few feet above my head
I looked up and watched as it settled into a tree across the street
To croak its urgent message
Which went over my head
