Letter to the Editor

Your eyes flash starbright

Intent with interest

Open to something new

Or happy with familiar old

Observing the scene with a practiced literacy

Pairs recombine into clusters

Then break up into singletons

Your eyes read past the headlines

Into the backstories

Carried by this mainstream flesh press

A broadsheet of humanity

Edited by fate

Published by reality

Freely available on any streetcorner

The Solace of Crowds

The solace of crowds

Can be enormous

When they’re friendly

The kindness of crowds

Can enfold you in shared love

The friendliness of crowds

When strangers laugh together

Crowds out the fear

Crowds out the remembrance of terror

No bolt from the blue today

Just happiness

Good cheer

No fear

Just laughter

No tears here

Just a recognition of the beauty

We all share
